Denis Island, Seychelles

Denis, a privately owned coral island, is the perfect location for those seeking true escapism, total relaxation and tranquillity.  This 375 acre island barely rises a few feet above sea level and is fringed by coconut palms, brilliant white sand and coral reefs. It is a great place to stroll along marked trails and is particularly lush for a coral island. In the shade of casuarina and coconut palms, Denis Island is the epitomy of barefoot luxury.

Just 25 individual and very spacious cottages, some of which are close to the beach, have been furnished and decorated in the true natural creole style. Each cottage is well equipped and the luxurious bathrooms also have an additional outdoor shower in a small walled courtyard. The cottages are discreetly positioned so that the wide verandah is not overlooked by your neighbour.

Denis is renowned for its culinary delights with an excellent menu choice or Creole buffet. A 'show kitchen' offers guests the option of selecting their own fresh produce and watching the chef cook it in front of them. Occasional beach barbecues are also organised.

The island itself is located on the edge of the Seychelles bank which plunges 2000 meters into the Indian Ocean. A small professional PADI dive centre is affiliated to the resort and provides a range of dive excursions and courses for beginners & advanced divers alike. Enthusiasts flock to the waters of Denis for their abundance of game fishing and runs of bottom fishing trips. Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing are available and snorkelling trips can be arranged. For landlubbers there is a tennis court, billiards, table tennis and a selection of board games.

Much has been done in recent years to restore and preserve the natural environment of Denis and there are guided walks along various trails around the island letting guests discover the wildlife of Denis including many endemic plants and birds. This has also resulted in new and more frequent visits by numerous species of birds, including in 2008 the first confirmed sighting of a Purple Heron. 2008 also saw the succesful introduction of several pairs of Magpie Robins to Denis which has culminated in the first Denis Magpie Robin fledgling seen in late September - a notable first!
