![]() Mahé Island SeychellesThe choice of hotels we feature on Mahé Island is listed on the left. Please click on a specific hotel link for full details of its services, facilities and location and also to obtain a price quotation. The largest island in the archipelago, 27kms long and 12kms at its widest, the economic centre and seat of government with approximately 85% of the population. The island is spectacular with its huge mountains and lush tropical vegetation rising to 905 meters at its highest. All visitors have to land on Mahé where the Seychelles International Airport and the tiny capital, Victoria, can be found. The best way to explore Victoria is simply to wander around. The market selling fish, fresh fruits, vegetables, spices and arts and craft is open from Monday to Saturday but bustling early on Saturdays as the locals descend for their weekly shopping. This is the best time to get a feel of the place and the people. Opposite Cable and Wireless you will find small arts and craft kiosks and to rest your weary legs why not enjoy a Seybrew (local beer) at the meeting point "Pirates Arms". Although Mahé is the most important island with the largest number of hotel rooms, it has still managed to retain its natural beauty and charm. The hotels have been constructed to blend into the Seychelles scenery and the 75 odd beaches are still idyllic. Most of the large hotels have some sort of entertainment in the evenings by local singers and bands. A range of activities can be taken from Mahé such as diving, water-sports, nature walks and trails within the national parks, galleries and excursions. Hiring a car is the best way to explore the island at your own pace. Roads are quite good, driving is on the left but take care of the hair-pin bends especially at night. A drive over the island will afford spectacular views and you are never far from superb, often deserted, white sandy beaches. Our choice of hotels on Mahé Island is listed on the left.
